Application of the Vortex Search Algorithm to the Phase-Balancing Problem in Distribution Systems

This article discusses the problem of minimizing power loss in unbalanced distribution systems through phase-balancing. is represented by a mixed-integer nonlinear-programming mathematical model, which solved applying discretely encoded Vortex Search Algorithm (DVSA). The numerical results simulations performed IEEE 8-, 25-, and 37-node test demonstrate applicability proposed methodology when compared with classical Cuh & Beasley genetic algorithm. In addition, computation times required algorithm to find optimal solution are order seconds, makes DVSA robust, reliable, efficient tool. All computational implementations have been developed MATLAB® programming environment, all evaluated DigSILENT© software verify effectiveness three-phase power-flow method.
